PADBROOK Park youngster James Reed won the Devon Under-16s Schools Championship at Exeter with a gross 74.

Reed fired two birdies in his score of 39 Stableford points.

The 11-year-old’s score saw him finish sixth in the Under-19 section.

He will now represent Devon in both the South-West and national championships.

Padbrook Captain Rod Hutchings said: “This was a really impressive result – we extend our congratulations to James and wish him the best of luck in both events which he has now qualified for. We are very proud of him.”

Ian Carvell came from behind to win the Winter Singles with a one hole victory over Gareth Parker.

Carvell was two down after five but won three out of the next four holes to go one up at the turn.

He extended that with a birdie on the tenth and he was three up with three to play.

But Parker won 16 and 17 to take the match all the way and had a shot on the final hole. However Carvell took the title with a par.

Gary Stevenson won the Spring Meeting by one point with a score of 37.

Stevenson birdied the tough par five 14th hole and finished with two pars to post a score that wasn’t to be beaten.

Richard Hughes took second spot with a strong finish which included five pars in the closing six holes.

Hamish Marshall was a point further back in third.
