The fine conditions enabled the 14 teams to produce some good golf.

The format, which included the proviso that all team members had to score on six holes, reduced the target to around the 80 mark.

Teams led by Bernie Skeels and Keith Potter made the vanguard, with nothing separating them until the final two holes when birdies by Geoff Dean made the difference. Potter’s team finished with an accomplished 81 points, three ahead of their nearest rivals.

A strong finish by Mike Light’s trio saw them level in second place having finished with four birdies and an eagle.

Both these scores were surpassed near the end of the day when captain Alan Davis and Bert Robinson returned a score of 45. This was achieved with the help of a gross par score on the back nine.

Result: 1 Alan Davis & Bert Robinson (45pts), 2 Geoff Dean & Brian Anderson (43pts), 3 Chris Denman & Bill Hilson (43pts).
