THE sun may have made an appearance over the weekend, but strong winds proved a challenge for those competing in an unusual sport at Brean beach.
Crowds gathered to watch 26 competitors match their skills in the British Land Yachting Championships during the Regatta in Brean on Saturday and Sunday.
Organiser Martyn Hayle, from Brean Land Yacht Club, said the winds meant they had to cut back the number of races for safety reasons. He reported gusts of 35mph.
But the wind didn’t stop the competition, which was won by Jake Cookson (class three). Deryk George won the standard class, with Martyn Hayle coming second and Craig George fourth. Class seven was won by Mark Sidey and the minis by Chris Wright.
