Somerset County First Division

Saltford 1, Middlezoy Rovers 2

MIDDLEZOY scored twice in the final ten minutes to beat Saltford 2-1 on Saturday.

After falling behind on the half hour mark, Andy Smith blasted home an equaliser from long range on 80 minutes – before Dan Luce popped up three minutes later to tap home the winner.

Manager Johnny Warren believes his side deserved to take all three points from the game, despite not being at their best.

He said: ''On the balance of play we feel like we got what we deserved. Our keeper hasn't had an awful lot to do over the course of 90 minutes and we have tried to keep the ball on a difficult surface.

“We haven't played particularly well today, by our high standards, but have found a way of winning and it's three more points on the board."

The home side took the lead on 29 minutes through Andy May and were causing the Middlezoy defence problems with their direct counter attacking.

Middlezoy enjoyed the majority of possession but were not at the races in the first period, on a bobbly pitch in need of a good roll.

After half time, Middlezoy improved but were struggling to make the final pass count.

The Saltford goalkeeper was doing his best to preserve a slender lead and saved well from Steve Hall midway through the second half.

The Middlezoy equaliser was worth waiting for when Andy Smith found the net with a superb long range strike on 80 minutes.

That goal had Middlezoy believing they could take all three points and the match winner was Dan Luce three minutes later who tapped in from close range.

Middlezoy now eight points off second place, with a game in hand and travel to fourth placed Brislington this weekend.
