Bridgwater Wolves U11 Warriors 1, Wembdon U11 Dragons 3

DRAGONS regained top spot in Division B by inflicting only the second defeat of the season on a very good Wolves team.

The Dragons team were almost unrecognisable from last week’s defeat to Ruishton, pressuring Wolves at all times and producing a number of good goal scoring opportunities from Alfie Griffin, Kristian West and Will Stokes all forcing fine saves from the Wolves keeper within the first 10 minutes.

With the returning Kieron Lowery back in midfield for Dragons, it was only a matter of time before the opening goal with Will Stokes scoring directly from an inswinging corner that gave the keeper no chance - before more midfield pressure led to a Kieron Lowery free kick being turned in by Kristian West from close range to score Dragons’ second.

Wolves kept up their attacking pressure forcing a fine save from Travis Moore and more good defence from Alfie Sampson and were very unlucky to see a free kick cleared by the head of Kristian West.

The second half saw both teams start brightly, with Alfie Griffin going close with a header and Wolves shooting just wide from a good attack down the left - before Bradley Hill scored the goal they deserved from close range after 13 minutes.

Dragons though kept their shape and good pressure down the left from Lewis Baker and a fine cross saw Marcus Sewell extend their lead with a fine left footed strike.

As both teams battled through the rest of the match, Alfie Griffin forced some good saves from the Wolves’ keeper before the final whistle blew, to leave both teams waiting for a return match – which may well decide who wins the league.
