BASKETBALL: Bridgwater College thrash SGS
8:00am Saturday 15th March 2014 in Sport
Bridgwater College 67 - 39 SGS
IN THE second game between Team BC Basketball and South Gloucester and Stroud (SGS) seconds this season, Bridgwater cruised to a 67-39 victory.
Team BC scored first and stayed ahead for the entire game.
They used their half-court offence well to get good shooting opportunities but failed to capitalise on them all. This allowed SGS to remain in touching distance for the first-half that finished 26 - 19.
In the third quarter Team BC managed to match their physical intensity with a mental clarity that enabled them to outperform SGS in a 22 - 0 scoring run, resulting in a third quarter score of 26 - 6.
Bridgwater played a pressing high intensity defence for the entire game, and the stats clearly show that their new defence is working much better for them.
During this game Bridgwater had twice the number of steals than in their last meeting with twelve, and six fewer turnovers with eighteen.
Spencer Gormley and Konstantin Luckjanec both had personal best performances - Spencer with a double double of 22 points and 20 rebounds, Konstantin with 17 points and 64% shooting.
Richard Anderson, head coach said: “I was very pleased with the result today, but I was more impressed with how far the team has come. They are playing much better as a unit now. Our main problems are confidence and consistency. Today, two of the guys played near their potential and we won by 28 points. When we get a game with three or four of them playing like that we can beat any team in this league.”
