Burnham II 10, Morganians 5

BURNHAM II battled to a narrow 10-5 victory over local rivals Morganians on Saturday – and were made to work hard throughout.

The first half was cagey affair, with Burnham dominating possession and territory but failing to make it pay.

The sides headed into the break level, but Will Conway opened the scoring with a well-taken penalty shortly after, to give Burnham the lead.

The first try wasn’t far behind as Maka collected Conway’s chip ahead, before feeding Donnelly who slid in under the posts.

Conway added the conversion to give Burnham a 10-0 lead.

Further reinforcements were poured in, in the form of Sam Weeks and Sean Lloyd – but the home side began to throw everything into the game.

They mounted attack after attack into a Burnham defence that held up extremely well - and it was only after considerable concentrate pressure that in the final minutes of the game they were able to cross the line via their scrum half.

However, it was all but the final action of the game and Burnham left with a win.

Next Saturday (March 8) Burnham II have a home game against Somerton.
