STEPHEN Longmoor won the Division One Stableford at Burnham & Berrow last Saturday with 41 points.

Played on the first day of the meteorological spring, players enjoyed some early spring sunshine and made the most of the relatively benign conditions after the storms or recent weeks.

Stephen got off to a flying start accumulating 18 points in his first six holes and reached the turn with 23 points. A solid back nine of 18 points ensured a one shot victory over Steve Reynard (40 points).

Reynard played an even better front nine with 25 points.

But, with the back nine once again playing the tougher of the two nines, struggled to hang on on the homeward half, and after scoring only two points on the difficult 17th and 18th holes missed out by one shot.

Martin Stephens and Derek Skett took third and fourth place both scoring 38 points.

Division Two was an even closer finish with just one point separating the first five spots.

Chris Perry emerged as the winner beating Roger Brafield on count-back over the last six holes after the pair had tied with 37 points.

Third, fourth and fifth places went to Rob Baber, John Nuttall and Drew Reynard respectively who all scored 36 points.

The previous Mondays’ yellow Course Stableford was won by Bryan Gunning with 41 points, and the Burnham & Berrow Juniors won their pre season friendly against Saltford last Sunday by 2 ½ to 1 ½.
