Errea County First Division
Wrington Redhill 1, Middlezoy Rovers 2
MIDDLEZOY inflicted a first defeat of the season on Wrington Redhill after a solid away performance on Saturday.
Dan Luce’s first half double fired Zoy into a deserved 2-0 lead, before Sam Johnson pulled one back for the hosts on the stroke of half-time.
Despite losing the reverse fixture on the opening day of the season and with three key players missing, Middlezoy took the game to their unbeaten opposition from the off.
After a bright start, left-back Charlie Lintell got in behind the Wrington defence and delivered for Dan Luce to tuck the ball home from close range on 14 minutes.
Wrington were forced to play most of the first half on the counter-attack with Middlezoy dominant throughout and Dan Luce doubled his tally on 35 after good work from Damon Jennings in midfield.
Ex-Bridgwater Town player Graham Cheeseman had a chance to half the deficit on 41 for Wrington, but his header was easily saved by Steve Baker in the Middlezoy goal.
Wrington did pull one back on the stroke of half-time when a Richard Lucas free-kick found Cheeseman who supplied the assist for Sam Johnson to bundle home.
Middlezoy forward Paul Atyeo had a good chance to increase the lead on 54 when he was released by a through ball, but his shot did not trouble the goalkeeper.
Simon Bone went close for Middlezoy on 58 but his long-range effort was tipped over by the Wrington keeper.
Bone also had the ball in the net on 75 minutes but his effort was chalked off for a foul in the build-up.
Wrington changed their formation in the closing minutes but were unable to break through the Middlezoy back line, which was well marshalled by the impressive centre back pairing of Scott Turner and Tom Brown.
This was Wrington's first league defeat this season but they can have no complaints after a solid Middlezoy performance.
