CHARD Town will be ‘raring to go’ today after being out of action for more than a month according to manager Adam Fricker.

Weather permitting the Robins will visit bottom club Portishead in the Toolstation Western league (3pm).

Portishead were beaten 6-0 at Calne Town at the weekend and Fricker and his side are keen to take advantage of their poor form.

Fricker said: “The lads are raring to go after being restricted to training on a Saturday for the past few weeks and we will definitely be targeting three points.

The Robins will remain at full strength with the exception of Sam Spurway who is still waiting to complete his suspension.

Fricker received some welcome news this week when Richard Hebditch announced he would be returning to training following a knee injury. The attacking midfielder was expected to be out for the rest of the season.

However vice-captain and influential central midfielder Andy Martin will miss the end of the season.

He has been troubled by a shoulder which has been repeatedly dislocated and is due to have an operation at the beginning of March.

The Robins are hoping Zembard Lane will have dried out enough to allow next Wednesday’s Les Phillips Cup tie with Brislington to go ahead.

The visitors play in the premier division but Chard recorded a 2-0 victory over fellow top flight side Bridport in the first round and are confident they can do themselves justice.

Fricker said: “There will be no pressure on us and I believe that on our day we can match any team in the premier division.”

Chard reserves are at home to mid table Hatherleigh Town in the premier division of the Fresha Devon & Exeter League today (3pm).
