PAUL Jones and Annie Williams have taken over the club captaincy roles at Brean Golf Club following the club’s AGM.

Jones takes over from Brian Read, while Williams replaces Sheila Rouse.

With Seniors Captain Allen Fellingham already in charge of his section, the trio will lead Brean into in the new golfing season.

At the end of the AGM Paul Jones explained the choice of Captains Charity for the year.

In a change for the norm they are supporting two causes in 2014 with the first one being to fund a defibrillator to be sited at the golf club should one be required.

It is part of the Bernard Gallacher campaign after the former European Ryder Cup Captain's life was saved last year by one after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest whilst making a public appearance in Scotland.

The second Charity is CLAPA, the Cleft Lip and Palate Association which supports children and families affected by Cleft Lips and Palate's.

Club professional Andrew March's son was born with this condition in November last year and Director of Golf David Haines's oldest daughter was also affected by it so the Charity has special relevance to the members of Brean.

In a change to the usual format of foursomes Dave Bradley, Alec Bateman and Steve Mason combined to win the pre AGM competition.

They enjoyed the pleasant winter sunshine which made a very welcome appearance for the large field that took part.

As well as having the best score of the day the trio also scored the only 'counting' two at the 15th to top up their winnings. Runners up just 0.2 of a shot behind the winners were Phil Aspinall, David Hunter and Steve Foy.
