NETBALL: Slow start costs Bridgwater Jupiter
2:00pm Wednesday 12th February 2014 in Sport
Bridgwater Jupiter 39, Devizes 47
JUPITER had a slow start and the first quarter ended 12-4 to Devizes.
In the second quarter, Jupiter came out fighting and shocked Devizes into calling a tactical time out.
Quick centre court play by Baylea Charles (C) enabled Jupiter to score eight consecutive goals.
In the third quarter, Becky Cowley (GD) made some excellent interceptions and Sammie Woolacott (WD) put pressure on Devizes centre and prevented their passes going into their attacking end.
Despite Jupiter’s efforts in defence, the third quarter ended 34-24 to Devizes.
Jupiter stayed positive and continued with the same fighting spirit into the final quarter.
Player of the match Lisa Durant (GK) forced the Devizes shooters into making many errors.
Devizes continued to battle and still held their lead.
Although Jupiter showed positivity throughout the game, Devizes took the win.
Saturn 28, Newton 42
SATURN played Newton from Yeovil on Saturday and were put under pressure from the start.
Emma Downes (WD) and player of the match Michelle Stone (C) made some great interceptions but Saturn did not capitalise on them and were ten down at half time.
Sally Haysham (GD) and Julie McClean (GK) worked hard in the defensive circle to turn over the ball and Saturn battled on with some well- timed passes into the circle by Hazel Hucker (WA).
These passes found Sammy Kemmish and Katy Cheese who dully finished them to bring Saturn back into the game.
The final quarter was well matched and Saturn managed to secure a point.
