PRIORSWOOD’S Bailey Nixon made a winning start to 2014 with a unanimous points victory in Paignton.
Nixon, a student at Heathfield School, was make his first appearance in the ring against fellow debutant Thomas Brierly of the home club.
Bailey made a quick start in round one, pouncing straight on Brierly and not letting him settle.
He did walk on to a few punches in his eagerness to get close, but pinning Brierly on the ropes at the end of the round saw him take the first round convincingly.
In round two both boys started to settle down and get in to their boxing, but the cleaner shots were always coming from Nixon.
In round three, both boys tired but gave it their all with Brierly again pinned on the ropes at the final bell.
The decision seemed inevitable with all three judges scoring the bout to Nixon but both boxers did very well considering they were making their debuts.
The two are being lined up for a rematch in a few weeks time.
