A BRIDGWATER college footballer is set to test herself at the highest level after being selected in the England Colleges under-19s women’s national squad.

Caitlin Berry, a talented attacking player, has developed through the Somerset FA Girls Centres of Excellent programme since the age of 12, completing yearly trials to be selected for each season.

Now in her last year of the programme, Caitlin is combining training and competing in the under-17s Girls Centre of Excellence League, British Colleges South West league with Bridgwater College’s Female Football squad and being on a demanding college course.

Caitlin, like all the players selected, will follow a similar programme to most national teams with structured meet-ups building up towards peak performance in a tournament at the end of the season.

Over the course of the season the players will participate in a series of training camps and British-based fixtures. This season, the squad will play against Australia Schools, Canada Schools, Anglo-Welsh Cup, Bristol Academy Women’s FC and Doncaster Belles Women’s FC before competing in an international camp.

Head coach Michelle Yeowell said: “Caitlin is an extremely gifted player who has excellent control on the ball which she combines extremely well with her speed and knowledge of the game.”
