Peppin double fires Middlezoy to windy win

Middlezoy Rovers 3, Keynsham Town Reserves 1

MIDDLEZOY picked up maximum points at the Aerodrome in a scrappy game dictated by horrendously high winds.

The visitors had the better of the first half kicking into the wind.

Two glorious one-on-one opportunities were wasted as the home side struggled to pass the ball.

The best of Middlezoy's chances fell to midfielders Sam Peppin and Dan Luce but neither forced the Keynsham keeper Chris Brice into a save.

The wind got progressively worse in the second half and as both sides struggled to retain possession, it became a more direct battle of long ball football.

Middlezoy defender Lance Turner found the net for the opener on 61, prodding home from close range after a well delivered set piece.

The lead was doubled on 65 through Sam Peppin, who smashed home from the edge of the box.

Keynsham were handed a lifeline three minutes later when Conor Hunt scored from close range to reduce the deficit.

However Middlezoy were awarded a penalty after a handball in a penalty box scramble in the 77th minute, which was slotted home by Peppin for his second of the afternoon.

Not a great spectacle, but Middlezoy satisfied with three points, sending them into seventh place with games in hand on most of the teams above them.
