RUGBY: Wright set for Cullompton debut
1:00pm Friday 24th January 2014 in Sport
INJURIES and absences have forced Cullompton head coach Chris Wall to reshuffle his back division for the trip to leaders Cleve in Tribute South West 1 West tomorrow.
Max Richards gets a well-deserved start at fly-half while exciting youngster Sionn Wright makes his debut on the wing.
Three of the five previous fixtures between the teams have gone Cullompton’s way but the absentees have hampered Wall’s preparations who is looking for an emphasis on teamwork.
Seats on the team coach are still available for those turning up at the club before 11.30 for the trip up the M4.
Last Saturday Cullompton welcomed back talismanic No8 Sam Harris for their disappointing 17-10 defeat at Bideford.
Harris has defied the odds, returning to action barely five months after a complete rupture of his Achilles tendon by virtue of total dedication to a tough rehabilitation programme.
Coming off the bench late in the first half, Harris later broke off of a maul to score Cully’s only try five minutes from time with centre Adam Pearce adding a fine conversion from wide out.
The fact that Bideford are relaying their pitch in the spring probably contributed to the club’s decision to allow play that transformed the ground into a morass.
And the gamble was rewarded with a satisfying win in a league and cup double.
