This is The West Country: Bridgwater College in Master trials Bridgwater College in Master trials

BRIDGWATER College's Team BC Netball and Basketball students recently travelled to Bristol to participate in the Indoor Netball Association's (INA) Master trials, competing for a place in the final round of trials in London later this year to represent England in South Africa.

The students took part in the sixes version of the game, where rules have been adapted from traditional netball to increase the fitness levels, agility and adaptive ability of players.

Their day started with an intense warm up, followed by ball skills and drills, and ended with a game of indoor netball, during which they were assessed on their performance.

Paige Pople, Katy Tasker, Konstantin Lukjanec and Jack Roberts all made it through to the final round of trials in London and - if successful - will represent England in South Africa, against South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

This achievement will enable the College to open negotiations with the INA to secure additional training and sessions with the England squad and become involved in the next South West tournament.

Jack Roberts, 19, from Cheddar said, “I used some of my basketball knowledge and as the day went on my skill developed.”

Leanne Wegg, 18, from Bridgwater said, “As the day went on everyone became more relaxed and my shooting skills improved a lot.”

Nyree Madge, Netball Academy Director said, “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to demonstrate the high level of skills which they all possess. As many of them hadn't played the game before they had to adapt their knowledge from other sports. I am very proud of each one of the players for their composure and for representing the College in such a professional manner.”
