TIVERTON’S new club captain, John Sampson, knocked defending champion Jimmy Heard out of the club’s Winter Foursomes on Saturday.

Sampson teamed up with Dave Milton to defeat Heard and his new partner Lee Arthurs.

Duncan Floyde, Ray Pratt, Peter Anthony and Andy Ogden posted 121 Stableford points to win the four-man team event on Saturday.

Mike Cottrell, Tony Lavery, Heath Ellis and Mark Sangster finished second with 108, pipping Ollie Main, Brian Phillips, Ricky Baker and Matt Watts on a countback.

Shirley Ward carded 34 points to win the ladies’ January Stableford on Wednesday.

The 23-handicapper edged out Maureen Postles on a countback, while Marian Stevens was third on 30.

Anto Hajduk won the nine-hole competition with 16 points, two ahead of Janice Haynes.
