ECVH 3, Burnham Ladies 1

BURNHAM finally got back to league action but the three weeks off showed in what was a slow and lethargic display.

They started slowly and went behind at a short corner but quickly recovered to equalise before half time - June England turning on a sixpence to fire home a shot after good work down the right from Louise Peace and Kerry Harvey.

Goalkeeper Vicky Dyer then brilliantly saved a penalty flick to make sure her team remained level at the interval.

The second half saw a much improved performance with Emma Ballard leading by example from defence.

They couldn’t prevent the home side taking the lead against the run of play but Burnham still had plenty of opportunities to stay in the game.

Harvey made a chance for England which she just failed to control on the line and always looked dangerous for the blues when she was running with the ball.

Caroline Hunt had a cracking strike saved before Bush went close with a reverse strike.

Johnson was then denied at the near post by a combination of goalkeeper and defender after a short corner routine - and Hunt was again denied at the same post from her deft flick after good work by Bush and Chelsea Fisher.

Unfortunately ECVH got their third towards the end of the match as Burnham piled forward, finally killing off any chance of the blues stealing a point.
