Defeats for Bridgwater Netball Club
8:00am Saturday 18th January 2014 in Sport
Saturn 29, Babylon 53
SATURN started the New Year with an away game against Babylon.
It took them a while to settle in the first quarter, resulting in a slow start as the first quarter finished 15-6 to Babylon.
A new line up in the second quarter saw Saturn produce some energetic play from Imogen Setter (C) and Katy Cheese (GA) who marked consistently up the court - and constant defending by Sally Haysham (GK) Emma Downs (GD).
The third quarter saw accurate shooting from Lianne Fothergill (GS) and Becky Palmer (GA) which increased Saturn score lines.
Positive drives from Hazel Hucker (WA) in the fourth quarter and continual attacking down the court from Saturn new centre Karis Holleron meant Saturn could keep momentum going.
Venus 27, Wyndham 52
VENUS travelled to Yeovil for their first game of 2014.
They found themselves trailing 9-5, as Yeovil's second team, Wyndham, stepped up their game in the second period. Tight marking in the circle made it difficult for Venus's attack to get the ball into the shooters and Wyndham capitalised on the turn-overs to lead 24-11 at half time.Pressure from Venus's Coleen Bartlett and Morgan Middleton forced the opposition to work hard in their attacking circle and player of the match, Middleton, rebounded many loose shots to set up the attack.
Chris Durant's (C) efforts in attack paid off as Venus had their best spell in the last quarter, managing to secure a valuable point against the league's leaders.
Mars 23, Hendford 54
A PREDOMINANTLY under 16 team were always going to struggle against Yeovil's more experienced fourth team.
Despite their youth, there were encouraging passages of play and good individual performances.
Highlights were Saskia Middleton's impressive circle defence, while Lily Rowland (GA) was sharp in attack and reliable in the circle. Centre Jess Webb was voted player of the match, her maturity in this vital position, belying her years.
Mercury 16, Reckleford 34
IT took a while for Mercury to find their feet against strong opposition.
Mercury started to settle into the game with superb feeding into the circle from Elaine Bartlett and Aerin Phillips although the first half finished 16-8.
In the second half the opposition pulled ahead despite strong defending from Hana Middleton, Emily Harwood and Victoria Saban. Mercury pushed hard in the final moments to try and get a point from the match with the final score 34-16.
