Taunton & District Saturday League - Division 1

Bridgwater Sports 1, Middlezoy Rovers Reserves 2

MIDDLEZOY Rovers Reserves ended Bridgwater Sports nine-game unbeaten run with a 2-1 victory last Saturday.

Goals from John Doyle and Jamie Temlett sent Middlezoy into a 2-0 halftime lead.

Matty Fursland replied for Sports after the break but Middlezoy held on to record their fifth win of the season.

Middlezoy Rovers Reserves manager Phil Hartley was delighted with the result and believes it was the right one.

He said: “I think the result was fair and we could and should have scored a few more.

“We had a purple patch of 25 minutes in the second half and if we had taken better options when in advanced positions we would have got more goals but we didn’t.

“The fact that not so many years ago Middlezoy first team were playing Bridgwater Sports in Division 1 – it shows how Middlezoy Rovers have progressed in the past few years with the time and effort put in by many people associated to the football club.”

Both Doyle and Temlett found themselves in acres of space to fire their side into an unexpected lead.

The pair supplied cool finishes to some neat passing moves as Middlezoy dominated the first half.

Fursland replied for Sports in the second half when he slotted home from close range, but the damage had been done and second-placed Sports were unable to find a way back into the game.

Their manager, James Prowse, pulled no punches after the game and was critical of his side’s first half showing.

He said: “I’m very disappointed with the first half performance in which the players thought they could just turn up and would win.

“However credit is due to the players who responded well in the second half and gave it a real good go and had enough chances to get a result.

“It was disappointing to lose our unbeaten record but we are still in a good position.”
