WITH the recent stormy weather abating for Saturday’s (December 28) Stableford and the course presented in excellent condition with 18 proper greens and all grass tees - there were some superb performances to report after the Christmas break:
Division 1 - Philip Worth - 39, Lewis Norton-Collins - 38 (after count back), Glyn Petrie - 38 and Andy Fisher - 37.
Division 2 - Barry Hall - 38, Steve Richards - 37, Bernard Harris - 36 and Steve Willoughby - 35 (after count back)
With a fair southerly wind helping on the front nine before the turn, and a tougher back nine to follow, with what can be described as a good two club wind Philip Worth returned a very creditable 39 points playing off his six handicap.
It was extremely tight at the top of Division One and Two, but with a full field the course was more playable than it has been in the last few weeks, as evidenced with a competition CSS of 72 and 10 players beating their handicap.
The Channel course was also extremely busy, through a combination of members and visitors who enjoyed the great setting, greens, tees and après golf. Burnham is definitely blessed by its location and sandy sub soil that drains so naturally.
