ROB Hogg of McKinlay’s 1st Chard Wheelers retained the ‘yellow jersey’ after finishing runner-up in the second round of the Kala Winter Circuit.

The race, held at RNAS Merryfield near Ilminster last weekend, was won by Rob McAllister of Somerset Road Club.

Hogg remains the series leader following his scintillating victory in the first round last month.

The latest race was another superb effort from the youngster who continues to enhance his growing reputation.

Rob’s father, Sean, was riding well in third place but just got pipped by two Tavistock riders and secured a very commendable fifth placing and some early season ranking points.

George Fowler, the ‘Wheelers’ most improved rider of 2013, again rode exceptionally well to finish sixth.

Justin Dance pedalled very strongly and selflessly as ‘lead out’ man for the others in the final sprint.

A combination of excellent riding and the teamwork ethic put three Wheelers in the top six of a senior race for the first time in several years.

This Sunday’s club run will include the annual Downhill Cup race from the top of Windwhistle.

Current champion, Richard Lupton, will be handing over the trophy to this year’s winner.
