9:00am Friday 13th December 2013 in Sport
Bridgwater College Basketball Academy 47, City Academy Bristol 63
BRIDGWATER played home to a strong City Academy Bristol team this week without captain Jack Roberts who was out with an injury.
It was always going to be a tough game without their leading scorer and biggest player on the floor missing. However Bridgwater started the game with a good intensity quickly going up five nothing but ended the first quarter trailing by two points.
City Academy increased their defensive pressure in the second quarter and it took too long for Bridgwater to adjust to it. Scoring only eight points against City Academy's twenty one.
Bridgwater rallied well in the third, with both Liam Vickery and Jack Chillingworth stepping up their defence whilst everyone moved the ball well on offense resulting in all five players on the court scoring.
This game Bridgwater their best quarter of the game 18-10 and brought the score at one stage to within five points.
In the fourth quarter Bridgwater lapsed on defence too many times and allowed Campbell from City Academy too many open looks - and he scored another two three pointers to bring his total to five for the game.
Despite Jack Williams answering with one of his own, Bridgwater were chasing the game and had one too many rushed offenses.
Coach Richard Anderson said afterwards: “I'm impressed with many aspects of the game today and although we lost, it was a positive step forward for the team. We had to dig deep and try and pick up some of the slack left with Jack not being here and in parts of the game we managed to do this.”
