Morganians 25, Ivel Barbarians 5

MORGANIANS returned to winning ways with an outstanding performance to beat Ivel Barbarians on Saturday.

Right from the off, Ivel couldn’t cope with the way Morgs moved the ball between forwards and backs, leading to Morganians gaining yards at will.

Five minutes into the half, Royston Grimstead scored after a great move from one side of the pitch, to the other, then back again.

Ivel started pressurising the Morganians try line but a fantastic display in defence kept them out and forced them all the way back to the 22 metre line.

Once the pressure subsided, the Morganians’ ever-dominant scrum drove their way over the line for David Harris to score from the back of the scrum.

The third try of the half came after good play on the wing between Ryan Rossiter and Royston Grimstead, opened up a huge gap in the Ivel defence.

From the following ruck, fly half James Fox moved the ball out wide quickly and a short pop by David Harris put Stef Pierce in to finish.

Morgs only needed one more try to give them the bonus point and it looked like it wouldn’t come after James Fox took the ball down the blind side and beat the outside centre and winger but knocked on just short of the try line.

However, Nigel Smith crossed for the bonus point try with minutes left on the clock.

l Morganians take on Wyvern at home on Saturday (ko 2.30pm).
