Burnham-on-Sea 23, Kingsbridge 27

A LATE try condemned Burnham-on-Sea to a narrow defeat at the hands of promotion rivals Kingsbridge on Saturday.

Kingsbridge crossed for their third try of the afternoon with just two minutes of the 80 remaining to snatch a dramatic victory.

Burnham had started the brighter of the sides and took an early lead when Tim Piper strolled through untouched to open the scoring.

Kingsbridge replied in kind before two Piper penalties gave Burnham a 13-7 lead going into the break.

Burnham soon strengthened their position when Tom Cheffey charged down a kick to score under the posts – Piper added the conversion to give the hosts a 13-point cushion.

A quiet and scrappy period of play followed, but when it subsided Kingsbridge came roaring back into the contest with a well-worked converted try in the corner.

Piper added a penalty in the final ten minutes, before Kingsbridge snatched the win with another converted try in the dying seconds.

Burnham travel to Penryn next Saturday (December 7) hoping to bounce back and keep up their push for promotion.
