Somerset County Premier
Shirehampton 2, Berrow 0
BERROW were well beaten by a good Shirehampton side on Saturday, as they fell to a 2-0 away defeat.
Still missing Scott Lismore, Ellis Harper and long term absentees Luke Morgan and Jack Taylor - Berrow suffered a further blow when Steve Osgood failed to recover from injury, with James Gass coming in for his first start of the season.
The first 10 minutes were pretty even, with Jeff Read testing the home keeper from 20 yards.
The home side then got on top, forcing Berrow to defend deep with Nick Slack keeping them in the game with numerous saves as Shirehampton’s dangerous front pairing caused problems.
Berrow struggled to get out of their own half, leaving Dave Keirle increasingly isolated up front.
Harry Penfold scrambled the ball off the line as the pressure continued to be piled on – and Slack again kept his side in the game with a string of good saves.
Shirehampton took the lead in the second half with a controversial penalty, before a mix up at the back saw the home forward round Slack and put the game out of reach.
Berrow were unable to threaten the hosts defence and the pattern of Shirehampton pressure continued up until the final whistle.
Berrow remain eighth in the Somerset County Premier Division and host local rivals Burnham United in the SFA Senior Cup on Saturday (December 7).
