Somerset Senior Cup Round 3
Berrow 2, Westland Sports 2 (AET). Berrow won 5-3 on penalties
BERROW came back from two goals down to set up a mouth watering home quarter-final clash with neighbours Burnham after defeating 2011 winners Westland Sports on penalties.
Playing against a strong Westland side from the Dorset County League, Berrow were forced into two changes with Kyle McErlain and Ellis Harper replaced by Mike Charlton and Steve Osgood.
With the strong wind on their backs Berrow started well, moving the ball around effectively.
Good work from Pete John and Scott Lismore set up Dave Keirle but his effort from 15 yards came back off the bar.
Berrow were forcing numerous corners but the Westland 'keeper impressed dealing with everything thrown at him.
It was from a Berrow corner that the away side took the lead when they broke at pace and caught the hosts napping.
On the stroke of half time Berrow had a great chance to equalise when Jeff Read's header was blocked and Lismore blazed over the follow up.
After the break Jack Taylor had a chance to level the scores but his shot found the side netting, only for Westland to go up the other end and win a penalty, which was coolly converted.
Berrow looked down and out but with captain Luke McErlain leading the way they got themselves back into the game when Taylor went down in the box and was awarded a penalty which he tucked away.
The equaliser came from a Ross McErlain free kick wide right which evaded everybody and ghosted past the 'keeper.
Both 'keepers thwarted chances in extra time and it was down to player-manager Ryan McErlain to slot home the winning penalty in the shootout.
