Saturn sneak home
1:00pm Thursday 31st October 2013 in Sport
Bridgwater Saturn 34, Knights 30
SATURN knew their home game against undefeated Knights was not going to be an easy.
They started the game tentatively but soon began to find their flow. Excellent defending by Sally Haysham (GK) and superb driving down the court by Karis Holleron (WA) allowed Saturn to pull back. Impressive shooting by Becky Palmer (GA) and Sammie Kemmish (GS) ensured Saturn finished the first half four goals ahead.
Emma Downes (GD) showed fantastic fight and aggression in the final quarter. Every player battled hard and Saturn ran out deserved winners.
Joint players of the matc:h Emma Downes and Imogen Setter.
Neptune 40, Abbey 42
NEPTUNE had to fight back from a slow start. Annia Holleron (C) kept control of the centre court keeping them in the game and helping them pull back the score line to finish the first quarter 12-12.
In the second quarter, Neptune stumbled slightly but accurate shooting from Katy Cheese (GA) and strong defending from Hollie Cornish (WD) meant Neptune finished the second quarter trailing by just four.
All Neptune players upped their game and helped bring the game back to a level score at the end of the third quarter 31-31 but they could not keep the momentum going and lost narrowly.
Venus 33, Kestrels 55 VENUS started their first game for four weeks against tough opposition.
Venus were marginally outgunned in each quarter but the whole team worked hard and kept plugging away until the end.
Player of the match votes went to Alisha Gardiner (WD), Chris Durant (C), Rachael Selway (GS) with Sarah Perry getting the overall vote.
Mars 37, Monmouth 43
ACCURATE shooting from Kayleigh Haste (GS) and Morgan Dunne brought the score to 19-23 to Monmouth by half-time.
In the following quarter, strong work in defence, particularly player of the match, Mary King, helped the Mars players pull the game into their favour, to lead 29-28.
However, despite the Mars team giving it their all, the win went to Monmouth.
Mercury 32, Avalon 51
THE first quarter finished at 13-6 to Avalon, despite Victoria Saban (GD) providing great defence for Mercury.
Avalon increased their lead at half time to 27-11, but Aerin Phillps (GA) continued the hard work with Jess Webb (C) working tirelessly.
