College's Sports Department endorsed by FA
7:00am Sunday 27th October 2013 in Sport
BRIDGWATER College's Sports Department has been endorsed for good practice as part of a nationwide study of further education colleges and charter standard club partnerships, by the Football Association's (FA) National Game Strategy.
The study was set up by the FA and British Colleges Sport to promote the work of 'Further Education Hub Clubs', which encourage colleges and clubs to work more closely together to maximise the opportunities for young people to become involved in football.
Bridgwater College has been recommended for good practice after engaging with local professional clubs to support the transition of students playing at the College into local under-18 and adult football, and providing much-needed additional football programmes such as Team19, Just Play and Mash Up.
The partnership between the College and local club Bridgwater Town (BTFC) has created pathways for male under-18 players to progress into reserve and 1st team football with BTFC, and to bridge the gap between under-16s and reserve team and/or adult football.
Jason Gunningham, Section Leader for Sports and Services said: “It's great the College has been recognised as following good practice and we are really happy with the developments that have been made.
“Our work with the local community means we now provide a more effecting playing pathway for male, female and disabled youth footballers in and out of education, as well as increased opportunities for coaching development programmes.”
