FOOTBALL: Malsom hits another winner for Tiverton Town
3:00pm Sunday 20th October 2013 in Sport
TIVERTON Town beat Truro 3-2 in the Calor Southern league at Ladysmead yesterday to stay on the heels of the leaders.
The match was another excellent advert for non league football was served up by two sides intent on attacking football.
And for the second game running Tivvy’s super sub Sam Malsom bagged the winner in injury time. The Yellows took the lead in the sixth minute. Matt Wright heading his eighth of the season from Max Kowal’s excellent cross from the right.
Wright then sent a header over the bar from a Marcus Martin free-kick.
All Truro had to show for their efforts in the first-half was a shot from Ben Watson that was deflected wide by Tom Gardner.
At the start of the second half Shane Krac tested Ollie Chenoweth in the Truro goal then City’s Ollie Brokenshire put an effort wide from 25 yards before the visitors equalised.
Jamie Lowry’s corner was headed up in the air by Paul Kendall and Aaran Pugh reacted quickest to head home.
Brokenshire and Cody Cooke both had long range efforts off target before the visitors took the lead in the 80th minute in stunning fashion.
A clearance fell to Neil Slateford, fully 30 yards from goal, and his dipping effort flew past Jon Viscosi in the Tivvy goal.
Within two minutes Tivvy were level, Kowal’s shot was heading for a throw in but hit Paul Kendall and rebounded into the net.
Both teams went for victory. Les Afful almost scored with a cross shot after a mazy run while at the other end Martin’s shot slammed off the bar.
Tivvy then produced a great move with the ball eventually falling to substitute Malsom in the box who finished with ease.
Man of the Match: Marcus Martin Tiverton Town.
