Enmore Park juniors take shield and win league
1:00pm Saturday 19th October 2013 in Sport
ENMORE Park won the junior Met shield for the first time in seven years with the team of Jack Dray, Will Howlett, Scott Linden, Megan Dennett, Robert Acland, Jake Bovington, Matt Ison and Lewis Day.
The juniors played their last league game on October 6 against Wells needing a win to clinch the title, and this was done with a 3-1 win, Megan just missing out on the 18th to lose by one and Rob Acland winning his singles match three up.
The two pairs matches were won by Jake and Lewis, six up, and in the last match Matt and Alix Kew won five up.
In the annual Enmore Kinnersley Trophy between the low men and low ladies handicappers the men won 4-3.
Wins by Judy Hancock, Penny Parker and Jayne Errington were not enough against victories by Terry Hodge, Bob Kippen, Mike Sullivan and Dave Weston.
Enmore Seniors ended September and began October’s fixtures with back to back matches, first away at Isle of Wedmore and secondly at home to Tiverton.
The away fixture brought the greater reward with a narrow, but nevertheless welcome, victory 4½ to 3½ .
Enmore’s points were secured by one exceptional win by captain Keith Norcutt with Paul Hibberd (6 and 5), followed by three narrow wins by Tony Pomeroy with Jim Potticary (one up), Roger Cross with John Patterson (one up) and Ray Hancock with Jim Symcox (one up).
The half point was gained by Roger Anniss with Colin Fitzpatrick.
The home fixture the next day did not go to plan, Enmore suffering a reverse by two matches to four against Tiverton.
Played with course maintenance in progress, the only outright win was Paul Waplington’s with John Parker (2 & 1).
Two matches provided half points – captan Keith Norcutt with Roger Anniss, and Ray Hancock with John Newell.
