Bridgwater & Albion 41 Coney Hill 0
BRIDGWATER & Albion got back to winning ways on Saturday with a six-try demolition of Coney Hill at College Way.
Rob Allen and Ollie Dunn each grabbed a brace, while there were scores for Ali Blundell and Joel Clarke.
Stuart Heal added 11 points from the boot.
Head coach Kevin Innalls was pleased to get back to winning ways and especially with the side’s defensive efforts.
He said: “It was quite a tough match for us and we’re pleased with the result.
“We’ve got our five points from the game, which was our objective, and it was really pleasing to keep them to nil.
“That was a big thing, keeping them to nil – they did put us under some pressure, but we dealt with it well.”
Having missed two early difficult chances, the league’s top scorer by a long way, Stuart Heal, opened the scoring with a 22m penalty after 12 minutes.
Following some patient recycling, he also converted a try by Ali Blundell before hitting the post with another penalty attempt.
Visiting winger Alan Wheller was yellow carded after 24 minutes, and immediately home speedster Joel Clark broke through and chipped ahead before reclaiming his kick to cross for an unconverted try.
Albion were delighting the crowd by playing some good rugby, and Ollie Dunn, a livewire throughout the game, increased their lead with another unconverted try.
The bonus point try duly arrived when Rob Allen gathered the ball deep in his own 22 and, to the delight of the crowd, tore through virtually the whole of the visiting team and ran almost the length of the field to score under the posts. Heal converted for a lead of 27-0.
Midway through the second half, visiting second row Alex Walters became the second Coney Hill player to be yellow carded.
Almost immediately, Allen made them pay by breaking through from about 30m for his second try, which was converted by Heal.
The final score came when Dunn broke through from halfway and beat a tiring defence to score under the posts.
