MIDDLEZOY Rovers progressed to the third round of the Somerset County Cup with an emphatic 3-0 victory over North Curry on Saturday.
Sam Peppin, Dan Luce and Andrew Smith secured Zoy’s path into the next round, and manager Johnny Warren was satisfied with the performance of his players.
He said: “The players showed great character after last week and this was exactly the response we needed.
“I thought we controlled the game and looked dangerous going forward, particularly when the midfield got close to Paul Atyeo.
The home side stamped their authority on the game early and were twice denied by last ditch defending inside 15 minutes.
The visitors’ resistance broke on 18 minutes when a Craig Wright corner was headed home by Sam Peppin.
Early in the second half North Curry created their best chance of the game, but Jordan Mein’s effort trickled wide of the goal.
The move of the game ended with Charlie Lintell creating a chance for Wright, who was upended by the keeper inside the area and Andy Smith did the honours sfrom the spot.
On 74 minutes, again Wright was the provider for Dan Luce to nod in from close range.
