Broom cleans up at Monthly Stableford
1:00pm Monday 7th October 2013 in Sport
TOM Broom was the leading player on the day in the October Monthly Stableford but Wally Pape was the big winner as he solely claimed the massive Two's rollover on offer.
Broom led the way in Division Two with a score of 39 points, on a day when despite almost perfect weather conditions scoring seemed very difficult, as he won by 4 from Jerry Brueford.
The other two Divisions were won with 37 point totals. Dave Porter was the winner of the top flight whilst Mel Brown was the Division Three victor and they both enjoyed 2 point winning margins over Stuart Wills and Andy Chapple respectively.
Liz Blackwell won the Ladies event ahead of Sheila Rouse and also reduced her handicap by a shot in the process. Wally Pape didn't enjoy the best of days in his opening 16 holes but his birdie two at the short 17th changed his day as he collected a three figure credit to his account for his efforts.
MURRAY Parsons produced a superb round of golf to take the win in Sunday's Super Series Stableford.
Other than a frustrating double bogey on the long seventh he scored steadily racking up 4 birdies on the front nine holes alone.
This all added up to 44 points and a 3 point winning cushion over three players on 41. Mel Brown continued his good form of the previous day to take 2nd ahead of Mike Porter on countback.
Kevin Davies was the player who missed out on any prize money but he does have the consolation of taking over at the top of the Super Series points table.
GEORGE Stratford showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels in the October Seniors Stableford as he romped to a 4 point victory.
He was the only player to beat his handicap on a cloudy morning with only a light breeze blowing.
The problem in scoring came from that breezes direction of attack from the opposite way to normal making the course much tougher.
The declaration of the runner up to Stratford was not the simplest of tasks as no less than five players all handed in 35 points.
John Sherwood was the best of them followed by Pete Douglas in third with Barrie Tucker, Jim Ness and Jim McLauchlan just missing out after the countback.
Simon Baunton and Tom Marshfield combined to win the Treasurer's Trophy Greensomes last Sunday. They produced a 43 point card as they played some excellent golf and it proved to be comfortably the best score of the day. They held a 4 point winning margin over runners up Steve and Alec Bateman.
The Mixed Team at Brean recorded a resounding victory as they defeated their Woodspring counterparts recently. Playing at home they won the four ball better ball match by 4 games to 1.
