Burnham Ladies beaten by Chard
7:00am Monday 7th October 2013 in Sport
BURNHAM LADIES 1 CHARD 4
THE SCORE did not really reflect Burnham's dominance of this match - particularly in the first half but failure to create any worthwhile chances in front of goal was their undoing.
They showed some good composure and experience on the ball at times but too often did not keep it long enough to allow the team to attack together.
Amy Edmundson led the forward line superbly with great energy and skill and always looked a goal threat, whilst Caroline Hunt & Lauren Cook worked hard in support and the team edged the first half on possession.
However, it was Chard that went into the interval leading as they nicked a goal against the run of play.
Burnham created more in the second half with Carly Bush driving forward and bringing a couple of fine saves out of the away gk before Chard got 2 quick goals in succession.
This knocked the blues confidence and suddenly they were on the back foot and Vicky Dyer had to make several top class saves.
Imogen Wright linked well with Louise Peace down the right and Sarah Johnson sent some cracking crosses into the D that were just dying to be converted.
Burnham eventually pulled a goal back from one of numerous short corners they forced and it was Edmundson who latched onto Bush's strike to swivel and score.
Rather than this being the spur they needed to go on and get another, Burnham conceded again almost immediately.
They ended the match on the attack with 5 consecutive short corners but could not get on the end of any of them.
