SIMON Vicary won the September Stableford at Padbrook Park after a tie on 39 points with Jamie Smith. Vicary won by virtue of a better score over the closing holes.

He birdied the 13th hole during his round.

Smith, who recorded three birdies, was left to count the cost of a double bogey on the final hole. Dave Payne, hunting his second win in successive events took third place with 37 points.

Smith’s finish virtually assures him of the season-long Order of Merit. With just three events left he has a 35 point lead over Gary Stevenson.

There was a four way tie in the Seniors September Stableford as one shot covered the top seven players. Nick Mitchell won thanks to having the best score over the closing holes. John Bowden who came fourth suffered due to double bogeys on four of the last five holes.

Youngster Sam Palmer continued his impressive year with victory in the pro shop stableford. He scored 42 points to finish two ahead of Martyn Cherry. Palmer saw his handicap cut once again – this time from 19 to 17.
