Somerset Rebels beat Edinburgh to book place in Premier League Knock-Out final
3:35pm Monday 23rd September 2013 in Sport
THE SOMERSET Rebels booked their place in the Premier League Knock-Out Cup Final by beating Edinburgh 100-80 on aggregate in their semi-final replay.
After emphatically winning the first leg at the Oaktree Arena 58-32, the Rebels kept things tight in the opening heats of the return leg at the Scotwaste Arena.
The Scottish side were never able to claw back any more than eight points of Somerset's first leg lead, with the Rebels virtually assuring themselves of a place in the final with four heats of the second leg remaining.
With the tie won, the Rebels did not need to force the issue in the final couple of heats, Edinburgh eventually running out 48-42 victors on the night, leaving the Rebels travelling back to the West Country with a Cup Final against Rye House to look forward to.
The first leg will be at the Oaktree Arena on Friday (September 27), with the second leg at Rye House on Sunday, October 6.
A delighted team manager Garry May said: “The boys did an excellent job tonight.
“They knew they could not let Edinburgh get a foothold in the match and the longer we kept it tight, so the pressure built on the Monarchs.
“Every one of the team rode superbly; Edinburgh are an excellent team but we knew what we had to do tonight and the boys did it to perfection.
“It might be a long journey back home but it will definitely be a happy one.”
