Phil Hodgson wins Monthly Stableford at Brean Golf Club
1:00pm Wednesday 25th September 2013 in Sport
PHIL Hodgson continued his excellent run of form as he added the Monthly Stableford prize to last week’s D&C Open triumph.
He carded 44 points to win by 4 from Dave Porter in Division One and with slice 4 shots of his handicap which now stands at 8.
Barrie Tucker also beat the 40 point barrier on his way to Division Two success. His 43 point card gave him a five shot winning margin over Mike Hurman in second as he edged the three-way countback for that spot.
Division Three winner was Nigel Ellis on 39 points in the closest finish of the day with Mo Sanders just one point less in second place. Sheila Rouse won the Ladies event with 32 points.
Pat Mullholland landed the Veterans Trophy in the damp and dismal conditions of last Tuesday morning.
He scored 41 to win by 4 from John Sherwood.
Sherwood’s card of 37 was matched by Barrie Tucker but Tucker had the poorer last 6 holes to lose out the runners up spot.
Two of the Summer Knockouts were concluded over the weekend and John Cullinan appeared in both Finals. On Saturday he won his Division Two singles Final for the Bill Martin Trophy against Steve Foy.
The following day though he succumbed, along with his partner Dave Lockwood, to the strong father and son pairing of Dave and Steve Jones by 4&3 in the greensomes final for the Upton and Scott Trophy. Assistant Pro Roy Baker ended his first season in the West Region PGA Young Pro’s League in a very respectable 10th spot overall. He navigated the Woodbury Park course in Devon in 74 shots, 2 over par, in the final round of the series and this gave him a share of 11th on the day but secured enough points to give him the top ten finish overall.
