TIVERTON consolidated their lead in the Exe League after winning the third qualifying event on home soil.

Martin Selby’s team scored a total of 218 stableford points to win by two and keep them in pole position ahead of the final round at Woodbury Park in August.

Bob Tye and Lloyd Sampson (32), Martin Selby and Carl Skinner (31) and Cameron Bundy and Charlie Durnan (35) played in the foursomes.

Ollie Taylor and Andy Pryce (38), Andy Bowers and Peter Boax (39) and Lee Davey and Andy Bolt (43) finished off the job in the fourballs.

Brendon Styles posted a six-under nett 65 to clinch the men’s John Goggs Bowl on Saturday.

Styles had his handicap cut from 23 to 20 after finishing two ahead of Dan Smith and John Webber-Rookes in Division Two.

Charlie Durnan claimed the Division One prize with 66, beating club captain Martin Selby, Alex Gibson and Steve Jeffs by two.

Tiverton’s ladies picked up a fine 4-3 away win at Bigbury in the Still Cup on Monday.

Jess Bradley and Abbie Moyes both won convincingly, 5 and 4, while Stacey Ford (1 up) and Sue Persey (2 and 1) were also victorious.

Team captain Jo Lloyd-Davies said: “We have one more match in a couple of weeks at home against RND, which we must win, but this result puts us right in the mix.”

Tiverton halved their home match against Bigbury in the Devon League on Monday.

But the 3-3 result meant Bigbury, as the away side, won 9-6 on points.

Anne Franklin (3 and 2), Julia Cole (4 and 3) and Janet Derrett (5 and 3) were the Tiverton winners.

The President’s Trophy II team secured a 4-3 victory at home to Torquay.

Liz Hall, Bridget Holland, ladies’ captain Anto Hajduk and Kay Leach won their matches.

The result followed a 5½-1½ win at home to Tavistock, when Hall, Holland, Hajduk, Marian Stevens and Jan Carroll all won and Shirley Ward halved.

Tiverton’s boys claimed a 3½-2½ victory at home to the Devon county girls team in a closely-contested challenge match on Sunday.

The girls took the opportunity to get in a practice round ahead of the English Girls’ Championship, which takes place at Tiverton at the end of July.

Amid heavy rain and gusty winds, final pair Jay Scott and Charlie Sampson sealed the team’s win when they hit back from three down to earn a half.

Tiverton’s girls went out of the national Royal British Legion knock-out tournament after losing by an aggregate of three holes at home to Stover A on Saturday.

Mollie Pilling (23) and Sianne Leary (27) were beaten 2 down by Devon girls player Molly Pavey (12) and Ben Tampkins (18).

Hannah Carthew (28) and Bethany Baker (26) lost 1 down to Seb Born (7) and Jack Glanville (25).

Tiverton provided five players for the match between the Devon men’s B team and the county ladies at Woodbury Park on Sunday.

Harry Konig won 5 and 4 while Rhys Cruse lost 1 down for the men.

Jess Bradley won 1 up, Abbie Moyes halved and Stacey Ford lost 6 and 4 as the ladies secured a 3½-2½ victory.

Tickets are still available for Captain’s Day tomorrow (Saturday), when Somerset band Las Torders will be playing from 7.30pm, but must be bought in advance.
