TIVERTON moved into an early lead in the Exe League after winning the first qualifying event at a sunny East Devon on Sunday.

Tiverton amassed 215 Stableford points to beat hosts East Devon by four, with Woodbury Park and Exeter trailing on 176 and 175 respectively.

In the foursomes, Ollie Taylor and Andy Bowers (32), Matt Woodgate and Nixie Acfield (35) and Tony Allsopp and James Lambden (33) scored 100 points in total to set Tiverton on their way.

The fourballs saw Rhys Cruse and Simon Waddington (35), Harry Konig and Jim Bray (40) and Martin Selby and Bob Tye (40) seal the victory for Tiverton.

Pete Guest and Mike Collins came in with a sensational nett score of 57.5 to win the Season Starter competition on Saturday.

Guest and Collins had a gross 75 in the American foursomes format, where both men tee off, play each other’s ball and then take alternate shots from the best position.

Andy Bolt and Adrian Frost (60) came second ahead of Derek Cruwys and Mark Davitt (62.5) and Dean Reed and Tony Sykes (64).

The event raised £200 for the Captain’s Charity – the Hospiscare day centre at Pine Lodge.
