YOUTH prevailed at Tiverton as youngster Jimmy Heard beat 92-year-old Noel Thomas in the semi-finals of the men's Winter Foursomes.

Heard, who has made an eye-catching start to his junior career, linked up with left-hander Tim Thompson to beat Thomas and David Wright.

Heard and Thompson had earlier defeated Tony Sykes and Mike Cottrell in the quarter-finals.

In the final they will face Colin Carey and Steve Buchanan, who knocked out veterans David Jack and Ron Stonebridge on Saturday.

Father and son Nick and Harry Konig racked up 46 Stableford points to win the men's fourball better-ball competition on Saturday. On a day of excellent scoring, the Konigs beat Ricky Baker and Dan Smith on a countback.

Brothers Ricky and Alby Cruse scored 45 to come third ahead of Keith Chilcott and Mark Davitt (44), Neville and Ollie Taylor (43) and Tim Durrant and Roger Norton (43).

Jan Carroll posted a score of +3 to win the ladies’ rearranged January Par on Wednesday. The 21-handicapper topped Bronze Division One ahead of Maggie Knowlman (0).

Caroline Anderson (-3) claimed the Silver Division prize on a countback while Carol Clarke (0) was the leading player in Bronze Division Two.

Wendy Frost won the nine-hole competition with a score of -1.
