BURNHAM once again finished with nothing from an away fixture due to a late goal in a frustrating clash at Frome.

Both teams started fast and neither side could claim any meaningful possession.

In the early exchanges Elliot Lamb was combining well with Claude Bitton and Aaron Hardwidge, and with Steve Leaf making life difficult for the Frome full-back, United looked threatening when they could get on the ball.

But it was the home side that started to get on top for a sustained period and James Cannard and Russ Holley were now being stretched as the Frome side started to create chances with their direct style of attacks.

Craig Hirons and Ed Lamb were called more into defensive duties than attack and Matt Scott nearly opened the scoring with a bullet header that produced an outstanding save from the home keeper.

Burnham started the second half confident and with a few alterations.

Dave Bidgood was now pushing on at full-back and it was United now on top and looking the more likely to score.

Elliot Lamb was replaced due to injury by Matt Mitchell for his first team debut and soon after Scott scored from an impossibly tight angle to make it 1-0.

With Will Lamb acting as a sweeper keeper Frome's long ball was no longer causing problems and the outstanding Burnham keeper was the catalyst of many united attacks.

United were however caught out by a rare passing counter attack and the Frome striker coolly slotted home with fifteen minutes to play.

Hardwide was replace by 16-year-old Nathan Bishop as United injected some more energy into the attack.

However, Frome scored a last gasp goal to succumb United to another away defeat.

Manager Luke Hussey said: 'The players are understandably devastated by losing to another late goal away from home, but we must look to take something from the performance and seeing new faces step up is encouraging.”
