FOOTBALL: Taunton Town win at Mangotsfield FOOTBALL: Taunton Town win at Mangotsfield

Taunton Town won 2-1 at Mangotsfield United in the Evo-Stik league yesterday leaving them unbeaten in five matches.

It was a deserved win for Town against a side who were immediately above them in the table at start of play.

There was early drama when Rodney Marsh fired a penalty wide of the post after three minutes following a handball offence.

Jamie Short made an excellent goal-line clearance to deny Todd Winter before Marsh made amends on the half hour when he put Town ahead, running through to slot the ball past Kevin Sawyer after Craig Herrod had set him up.

Herrod himself increased the lead on 50 minutes when he capitalised on Sawyer miscontrolling a back pass to tap the ball home.

Mangotsfield's Ryan Bath was shown a straight red card after clattering Simon Ingram but the home side managed to pull one back after 76 minutes when Shaun Lamb converted a spot kick following Owen Irish's tackle on Kyle Thomas.

Manager Leigh Robinson said:" I was really proud of the performance as every time you go to Mangotsfield you know you have a physical battle on your hands and we stood up to that brilliantly.

“We looked incisive from the start and should have had more goals really but I'm delighted with the three points."
