GOLF: Richard Hughes stars at Padbrook Park

RICHARD Hughes won the first individual event of the year at Padbrook Park – the February Stableford.

Hughes shot 39 points and his solid finish including a par on the 17th and a bogey on the last was enough to edge out Gareth Parker on countback.

Gary Stevenson took third spot as he edged out two rivals on countback.

February Stableford: 1 R Hughes 39pts, 2 G Parker 39, 3 G Stevenson 35, 4 J Smith 35, 5 R Cavill 35, 6 B Howarth 34, 7 C Senik 34, 8 D Turner 33, 9 K Curtis 33, 10 G Purcigo 33.

Padbrook Park will face Honiton in round one of the Daily Mail Foursomes. Kev Taylor and Rob Broomfield, who won the qualifying event, have home advantage in the tie.

Padbrook have been rewarded for their excellent first round win at Minehead in the Mail on Sunday Classic with a home draw.

They will play East Devon League rivals Woodbury Park in the five man team event.
