Somerset County League, Division 2W
Combe St Nicholas 1, Middlezoy Rovers 2
MIDDLEZOY bounced back with a win at the weekend and it was an even first half as the defence stood up to the direct log ball tactics deployed.
Goalkeeper Steve Baker had to be alert, impressively saving two long distance efforts.
In the second half, Middlezoy’s efforts were rewarded and on 52 minutes, captain Darren Cann forced home a shot from close range.
The home side drew level minutes later against the run of play, but the introduction of Damon Jennings and Paul Atyeo on the hour mark led to the winning goal.
Jennings won the ball in midfield and centre forward Atyeo bulldozed his way through two challenges before riffling a strike past the keeper on 78 minutes and claim the 2-1 win.
The team are at home to Wincanton in the semi final of the Somerset Senior Cup on Saturday. Free admission and refreshments available.
Middlezoy: Baker, L Turner (Robinson), Sh Turner, Sc Turner, Bone (Atyeo), Cann, Whaites (Jennings), Luce, Wright, Hall, Smith.
