CHRIS Fairchild returned both the best gross and nett score on his way to winning the February Medal at Brean.

The 30 minute delay to the tee times due to fog was shrugged aside by Fairchild as he breezed to Division Two success with his stunning net 66.

He claimed a two stroke win over Jerry Brueford and with it took the Presidents Putter which was on offer for the best overall score of the day. Third place in that Division went to Dave Lockwood with a net 69 but as he scored the only two of the day he took the healthy rolled over pot home with him. Division Three saw Simon Baunton overcame a late wobble to score a net 69 and win by a single shot from Nigel Hodges with Roger Phillips yet again featuring in the top three in third spot. Surprisingly no one in Division One could match their handicaps so it was Eamonn Wynne's net 71 that took the Medal. Roger Vaughan was the runner up on 73 just ahead of Andy Thomas on 74.

Dai Wood won his first Seniors Stableford on a cold but dry morning last Tuesday. After yet more rain had fallen over the previous weekend the course was restricted to 15 holes but Wood steadily accumulated points over the holes in play to bring in a winning score of 31. He was playing in the last group on the course and his return to the clubhouse put paid to the victory chances of both Barrie Tucker and Pete Douglas who were awaiting a countback to take place on 30 points. In the end that countback was done but for the runners up spot and not the win with Tucker edging it on the back seven hole score. Len Young and Jim Wotton shared fourth on 27.

The annual Presentation Lunch for the Senior Section at Brean Golf Club took place the following day. The event attracted over 70 members and their guests to the The Tavern at the Leisure Park where they enjoyed an excellent lunch before collecting their rewards for their golfing achievements over the last 12 months.

David Haines enjoyed his best G&S PGA Medal finish of the season so far as he tied for third spot in a snow shortened Medal at Thornbury. He matched the revised par of 59 to end just two shots behind winner David Dixon. Roy Baker also recorded his third top ten finish of the season after his 62 left him in a tie for ninth but Andrew March suffered a poor day to end up well behind the leaders although he maintained his fourth position in the Total Triumph Order of Merit.
