CRICKETER Sophie Luff will captain one of the side’s competing in the first Under 19 Women’s ARCH Trophy in Abu Dhabi and Dubai this week.
The 18-year-old will lead the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) side through three group stages matches and then hopefully into a final which takes place on Saturday before flying back home on Sunday.
She posted on Twitter this week: “Really looking forward to it, I’m captain which should be a great experience.”
Luff will take on Durham on Tuesday, Devon on Wednesday and Essex on Thursday.
Luff, from Lympsham, is no stranger to the international cricketing circuit after representing England Women Under 19s in their two Twenty20 matches against Pakistan last season.
She has also been training indoors in Loughborough with the national under 19s squad and hopes to be involved in their summer fixtures this year.
The eight-day tournament also sees teams from Devon, Durham, Essex, Lancashire, Scotland, Sussex and Wales.
The MCC squad has been chosen in partnership with the England and Wales Cricket Board including girls directly involved in the development programmes.
ECB head of England’s women cricket Clare Connor said: “The tournament is a brilliant initiative which will give the girls the opportunity to experience an overseas cricket tour for the first time and learn more about the game.”
