Conference South
Bridgwater men 2, Plymouth University 2
THE match started at a fast pace but as Bridgwater settled into a passing rhythm they created a couple early chances for Tom Lott who was finding his range early on and testing the Plymouth goalkeeper.
Goalkeeper Pete Saunders was solid between the posts making a couple impressive stops and after about 15 to 20 minutes of end-to-end hockey Bridgwater did take the lead - an aerial ball from Tim Sullivan wide on the right found Lott who raced past the defender and calmly finished.
Plymouth seemed content to counter attack and found an equaliser just before half time.
After weathering the early second-half barrage, Bridgwater started to take control of the game again and from a penalty corner Lott stepped up and his drag flick found the side if the net for 2-1.
But there was heartbreak for Bridgwater as Plymouth equalised with five minutes left. Man of the Match went to Tom Lott.
Central Division
Bridgwater Ladies 1st 2, ECV Hornets 1st 1
FOLLOWING a strong start Bridgwater scored their first goal from open play.
A cross from Lou Sturgess found Katie England who made no mistake in lifting the ball past the keeper. Further pressure resulted in the second - Charlie Lewis dribbled down the right side and her cross found Kira Gardner who skilfully dribbled around a couple of defenders before slotting the ball home.
ECVH had several forays into the Bridgwater D and despite a run of penalty corners were unable to convert.
The second half saw Bridgwater pushing for a third goal and they created some fine moves with the ball being transferred easily across the pitch.
Midway through the second half Bridgwater lost their shape and ECVH had a quick break resulting in a one-on-one with the Bridgwater which they put away to pull a goal back.
Player of the match was Jo Bromme.
South East 1
Bridgwater Mens 2nds 7, Sidmouth & Ottery 4ths 4
BRIDGWATER started well and were rewarded with a good team goal. From Mike Morrish at the back the ball went to Duncan Bond then on to Aaron Turner who went past his man and crossed for Rich Payne to score in the far corner.
Paul Tilley got Bridgwater’s second before Sidmouth made it 2-1. Matt Slocombe scored into an open net for 3-1 but Sidmouth pulled a goal back for 3-2.
This seemed to wake Bridgwater up and a good ball from Tim Bennett found Rich Payne who off loaded to Duncan Bond to keep up his goal-a-game average for 4-2.
The second half saw Sidmouth level the game at 4-4 before goals from Payne, Paul Tilley and Slocombe ensured they won.
Man of the match went to Paul Tilley.
Sedgemoor Division 1
ECV Hornets 2nds 0, Bridgwater Ladies 2nds 1
THE team played some classic hockey keeping space and structure and working hard to support each other and really pressurised the Hornets’ defence.
Paige Martin linked well with Jenny Hayden-Briffett and Kath Briggs, who had a goal disallowed shortly after, in what proved to be a goalless first half.
The elusive goal did come though midway through the second-half as a break down the left from defence saw Becky Oram pass to Kath Briggs who skilfully reverse hit the ball past the keeper to give Bridgwater the goal they deserved at last.
South East 2
Minehead 2nds 9, Bridgwater mens 3rds 1
BRIDGWATER started brightly but it turned sour from there as the free scoring Minehead team showed pace in their direct style of play to take a 6-0 lead into half time.
Bridgwater heads were down but 30 seconds into the second half, Cameron Birch picked up the ball from a poor clearance on the 25 yard line and drove towards goal before scoring.
Bridgwater played some of their best hockey but lost impetus after about 15 minutes and Minehead capitalised to score three more goals and round off a 9-1 win.
South East 3
Bridgwater Mens 4ths 10, Bridgwater Mens 5ths 0
IN this club derby match, the fourth team secured their fourth-straight win with a 10-0 win against the fifths.
Dave Dosson, Mike Davidge and Dan Batten all scored two each along with one from Marcus Blyth helped the 4ths race to a 7-0 half-time lead.
The second half was a more evenly matched contest with 5thss keeper Brad Palmer making countless saves and the defence putting their bodies on the line to prevent further goals.
But there were three more goals to give the 4ths a one-sided scoreline.
Dan Batten was Bridgwater's 4th team man of the match and Joe Syvret was the stand out player for the 5ths.
South East 1
West Dorset 1st 3, Bridgwater Mens 2nd 3
THE Men’s 2nds Sunday match started well for West Dorset with an early goal before doubling that lead to put Bridgwater under pressure.
Bridgwater halved the deficit before the break as Paul Tilley’s pinpoint pass found Duncan Morrish on the run who coolly slotted it past the keeper for 2-1.
The second half began much like the first with West Dorset making it 3-1 but a determined Bridgwater side bounced back and made it 3-2 through Paul Blackmore and then levelled up proceedings shortly after as Rich Payne knocked in a rebound from his inital shot.
Man of the match went to Paul Tilley.
