GEMS produced their ninth win of the season when they met Newton from Yeovil this weekend.

From the start it was clear that Gems were on top form. Strong pressure was put on Newton's attack by all players, and the turn over balls were taken advantage of by Gems, who took a substantial lead from the start. Quick passes and accurate shooting took Gems to a 59 - 28 victory, with player of the match being deserved by shooter Hannah Clapp. Umpire vote went to Amy Witcombe for her solid work at centre.

Rubies 46, Claremont 34

RUBIES had three team players missing, bringing up Katie Dennison, Karen Lewis and Emma-Jayne Brown. Steady play throughout the first quarter enabled Rubies to keep ahead 13 - 8. Tight marking and good passing from Emma-Jayne Brown into the shooting circle enabled Paige Pople and Lynne Cornish to make excellent shots at goal, and Rubies continued to move ahead, and at half time the score was 23-19.

Tight defence led by Sandy Hocking, assisted in Rubies keeping their lead with three quarter time score 32 - 27 and with determination in the final quarter they increased their lead to 46-34 at the final whistle.

Mikki Hole was voted player of match.

Somerset Division 1

Sapphires 51, Parkfield 31

SAPPHIRES started strongly taking an early lead with great shots from Abi Ridler and Hannah Read, working well together in the Sapphires circle. Meanwhile defensively, Beth Fella and Rachel Lawrence made it difficult for Parkfield to play their own game. Sapphires continued to pull away during the second and third quarter, with centre court players Laura Coombes and Katie Ball placing well timed strong passes into the circle. During the last quarter Parkfield came out fighting but strong defensive play from Sammie Brown helped Sapphires take another win 51-31. Beth Fella was voted player of the match.

Somerset Division 2

Emeralds 22, Kestrels 33

EMERALDS started well, creating lots of chances as Roxy McDowell and Michelle Parr worked hard to create spaces.

The team lost their way slightly in the second quarter with lots of missed chances but they showed a lot of fight and determination in the third quarter.

Emeralds closed the gap at the end of the quarter, although Kestrels still held the lead. Emeralds never gave up in the fourth quarter and continued to work well as a team. Unfortunately Kestrels also upped their game with Emeralds finding it difficult to get past their defenders. Player of the match went to Leanne Wegg with Umpires player of the match going to Michelle Martin.

Somerset Division 3

Ambers 44, Priory 21

THERE was a great win for Ambers as some great balls into lovely positions for the important shots saw them take the lead 13-5.

Jo Bromme made some great interceptions with defensive duo Nic Hale and Megan Buller working well together to help turn in a 26-7 half-time lead.

Ambers made a few changes in the third quarter and ended it 34-16. The fourth quarter saw Mia Bennett get into some great spaces to help round off the win. Player of the match went to Jo Bromme and umpires vote went to Megan Buller.

Somerset Division 3

Garnets 21, Monmouth 44

THE team settled quickly and produced some good netball with the ball being passed smoothly from Steph Elkins and Vicky Evans to shooters Amber Lovell and Carly Langdon.

In defence, Nicky Elkins had a great game, tipping and intercepting many of Monmouth's passes. Garnets worked hard throughout the game, but it was not enough to overturn Monmouth's lead, as they won 44-21. Nicky Elkins and Amber Lovell were voted players of the game.
